Wouldn’t it be something: buildings that are built from a living material. With walls of mycelium. It’s our dream. But there is still a long way to go.

Yet it all starts with ambition. And we have plenty of that. Our approach: start small. We made and tested several small prototypes of the building block. We scaled up the most promising design, 3D printed it and let it grow on mycelium. The design is quite unique, because it combines the mycelium blocks with a bamboo poles.

The end product is a feather-light but very strong building block. A robust stone with which we can erect solid walls thanks to the smart system of bamboo reinforcement.

Ps: We are also experimenting with mycelium-based ceiling/wall panels and are stretching the limits of this miraculous ‘material’ by growing large objects.
